To make sure each participant gets tailored and one-to-one tutoring this course runs only with 5 students. During the 8 weeks course you will learn and have plenty of time to practice throwing on the potter’s wheel. The first class will focus on throwing basic cylinder shapes, then move to bowls, vessels or pots during the second session. Later you will learn to throw more complex shapes like bowls, vessels, mugs jugs and cups. The course also covers trimming and glazing, adding handles and creating a lidded jar. By the end of the course you will produce approximately 10 finished pieces. All materials, glazing and firing is included in the price.

During the second week of our 5 week course for beginners, participants will explore coiling 🌀

Coiling = Hand-building a pot using ‘snakes’ of plastic clay. The term is extended to cover many techniques in which the ‘snake’ varies from a thin to a large thick sausage which is squashed and added with a pinching technique. Each coil is usually integrated with the previous one so that its separate identity as a coil is lost. Only rarely see coils left showing the method of construction and them it is as a decorative feature. Coiling is usually done from the base upwards to the rim but wide bowls are often coiled upside down starting at the rim. Either way, the process is one of organic construction and the feeling of steady growth and expansion is expressed.

We had a fantastic time running the Clay Ghost and Pumpkin making workshop today for SEN families at @harrowartscentre 🎃👻

The children were so excited to learn how to work with clay, making adorable ghost lanterns and pumpkin pots using slab building and pinching techniques. It’s always a joy to see familiar faces in the group as well!

This workshop provides all the materials you need, so you can sit back, relax and get ready to get lost in colour.

This workshop is for complete beginners and experienced potters alike. Throughout the workshop there will be group demonstrations followed by individual guidance for each stage of the designing and making process. Everyone works at their own pace on their own items and you are encouraged to be creative and have fun working with clay.

On Saturday we were back to @harrowartscentre to our popular SEN Pottery Workshop where families had a great time creating decorative tiles, playing with slip and even having a go on the potter’s wheel.

This course is perfectly suited for beginners or those who attended one of our taster classes and would like to widen their knowledge.

During the weeks (2,5-3 hours) you will learn the basic pottery techniques: pinching, coiling, slab building and finally you will have the chance to throw on the potter’s wheel.

The last session focuses on surface decoration and we glaze theory.

On the 6th of June we will be back to @onestonegrove to start the last 6 weeks of Community Pottery Classes during this academic year.

Our studio works with Barnet and Southgate College @barnetsouthgate Adult Community Learning department, to offer affordable courses for the local community. Through these classes our aim is to enhance individuals’ life opportunities and we focus on health and well-being as well as on community cohesion ❤️❤️❤️ participants also learn the basic pottery techniques and ready to start an exciting creative journey.

Our Community Pottery Classes for Adults is aiming to bring the members of the local community together through creativity and art, focusing on mental health and well-being. These sessions are run in a relaxed and social atmosphere.

In this 6 week class students will explore the characteristics of clay by making and decorating their own bowls, a set of decorative tiles, a set of candle holders and focusing on a more personal project towards the end of the course. During the course students will learn 3 pottery hand building techniques: pinching, coiling and slab building.

Join our Evening Pottery Course and unleash your creativity! Our 5-week program is perfect for beginners looking to master pottery techniques.

Each session focuses on a specific technique, where each method leads to the next: pinching, coiling, slab building and throwing on the potters wheel, with the last session focusing on colour application and surface decoration. Furthermore you will develop good studio practice and material knowledge.

After completion of the course, you will be capable of planning and creating your own pottery pieces independently using the various techniques learned during the 5 weeks and will have gained efficient studio practice.

The Potter’s Wheel Beginner Course is designed for those who attended one of our sessions as well as to those who would like to practice and develop throwing skills. To make sure each participant gets tailored and one-to-one tutoring this course runs only with 6 students.

During the 8 weeks course you will learn and have plenty of time to practice throwing on the potter’s wheel. The first class will focus on throwing basic cilinder shapes, then move to bowls, vessels or pots during the second session. Later you will learn to throw more complex shapes like bowls, vessels, mugs jugs and cups. The course also covers trimming and glazing, adding handles and creating a lidded jar.

By the end of the course you will produce approximately 10 finished pieces.
